IN A MIDST OF MY EXISTENCE...

Let's be honest.

We all want to be remembered by others.

To simply catch people's attention,

Maybe most of you wanted to be famous...

Hearing your name everywhere you went...

Having 'selfies' with people who adore you...

Walking on a red carpet and catching on a paparazzi...

But let me ask you something...

How do you want to be remembered by those people around you?

Me? My answer is simple...

To be a stand out amongst the crowd...

A person with ambition and a positive outlook in life...

The one to be looked up to...

To be remembered as a person who would be able to stay by their side at times of trouble or be a person who they can rely on in their darkest days...

That's what I want to be...

MY HERO...

We only see superheroes at movies, comics, or television. Fictional.

And I bet, we all have a silent dream of becoming one.

Super powers, fighting crime, saving people. It was all a cycle; So common. Yet it never failed to entertain us.

We ought to want what we don't have. Their estranged abilities lures our curiosity, envy, and awe.

And let's face it, you guys thought that superheroes are not real.

Tell me to grow-up but I do believe in superheroes.

And to give you proof, i'll tell you the story that made my belief stay that way throughout these years of my existence.

April 13,1971 in a hospital in Manila where the battle cries of women giving birth are heard, a human baby girl named Maria Glenda P. Rosanes was born. She was the offspring of  Corazon P. Rosanes who was that of an educated pharmacist and Rellie Rosanes, a well-known mechanical engineer and owner of the only pharamacy built in the small town of Ternate. Little does this baby girl know her legacy. Nor did everyone.

As a child, she was described as cheerful, bright, and charming by many. She never ended a day without affecting people who surrounds her with happiness. Many obstacles have come her way as time passes by but she fought through it and overcame it. Not until one day...

When sparks flew all over the place, it feels like something was up in the atmosphere, and a slow-mo phase of motion was set... the time when she met her future husband named Arnel L. Gutierrez.

To get the adventure going, let's say that my hero's love life wasn't that immediate and mutual.
My hero, is popular at their town (ternate) in her time because of her traits. She is confident ,witty ,patient and she has a sweet and heart warming smile which attracted many people her age.  She also wants to be free and enjoy life which opposes Arnel's status. He was not-so-popular and is often misunderstood because of his great skills. In which this proves that he is the REALLY the exact polar opposite of my mother. He is very timid and shy but he is a man of action and ambition. He wants everything in place as he planned it to be.

Arnel was the first the first one who fell into the likes of my hero. It was love at first sight. Just like a fantasy; impossible. There was no assurance of him staying. But he has a thing that stands out from the others...his unbelievable persistence and willingness. Surprisingly, their relationship was more like a bud of rose that slowly sprouts and blossoms into something...wonderful. After 14 years of courtship, he made Maria Glenda say yes. Maybe opposites really attract after all. Of course being a hero doesn't always mean that you're always happy... there came this new obstacle...a new stage... it was parenthood.

Long after Glenda and Arnel was married. This beautiful baby was born and her name was Agnes Gwyneth R. Gutierrez (which is basically me). My mother struggled through those years, finding out the best things to comfort me as possible. To simply give me the best in which she never failed. Whenever I scrunch up my face when I get bruises and scars my mom comes to the rescue and made me feel alot better. She loves to see my smile, not my demise. She was always there right by my side and puts me first even than herself. She's too generous, kind, loving, and funny. It's a little cliche' to say but, she is the best mother for me. The best hero. Ready to sacrifice everything just for my good welfare.

THE CRAG JOURNEY: Three phases

I
One goes on an endless journey;
Driving into an unknown abyss, blind with innocence.
Would thy vanish into a puzzling road?
No one has got a clue , no one knows.

II
On a moiety of your adventurous trip,
started yet another turning point.
A crevasse that would leave a mark in one's mind.
Thy first phase, in high school.

III
Anew to this environment,
with some creeping out like a child, while some hiding.
Confusion and avast thoughts ran through thou sky;
the smell of tension, uneasiness, and challenge filled the air.

IV
Zeal is what some novice unveils within their palms
despite of the cowardice feelings others emit;
which goes down towards a foreknown degree of brashness.
Thou could tell whom is whom; Thou could compare.

V
Intermingled situations and emotions came across in speed;
All didn't knew what was coming. No one did.
Tumult together with rebuke raised upon a crowd!
Some at brink of desolation, but some acclimated.

VI
Time etches our lives,
today becomes yesterday and tomorrow becomes thy present;
and after a long run of this repetitive cycle
came the second phase, the sophomore year.

VII
Refined and renewed, now everything was.
The once naive mundanes came to age with experience. Then thrives the responsibilities that dwells inside ones soul that starts the radiance of authority, and of control.

VIII
A revered competition arisen and a few were prepared.
Chosen where people who has treasure trove knowledge that blossomed against those ridicule pace, but chosen are also the ones who striven with courtesy and difficult labor.

IX
Then, at the verge of everything, thou should be percolated again. Passed the test were many, but some failed.
Chummy goodbyes were spoken;
Each of every body would have to forget.

X
There comes but a third phase, where one becomes a junior-- Walking down with solemn yet majestic poise; confident.
 Satisfied of how things were accomplished at this matter of time. Necessary would it be now; to cease a higher level of ambitious work.

XI
Towering maturity and precaution is what junior students should possess to keep up with this struggle for triumph.
And thus, proclaim themselves worthy to face yet another degree of adversity and apprehending dares.

XII
I am but a chameleon that adapted to these changes;
and to these abrupt vicissitude that seems to be boundless,
I have yet to face the greatest of them all,
I have yet to face, the real world.

XIII
With this poem comes of my experience
about a fragment of an epoch,
all and sundry would go through.
May this ballad be of sense and use to thy.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A JUNIOR?: THE FIRST WEEK.

We were running out of time with a few minutes left.  I know that I must not miss this. While my mother was driving from Dasmarinas to Cavsci, I kept on looking at my watch nervously. Each second that passed, my heart was beating wildly, my feet turning cold, and thoughts rumbling inside my head. Will I make it to school before the Flag ceremony starts? Well, i'm about to find out. This has been my Monday ritual for two years. But now, I am a junior high school student and it's about time for me to change my ways.

After two months, the summer has ended and I know what comes next. I had prepared everything in place the day before and thought of happy things. I know that going back to school has not been easy. I'm becoming a junior high school student and meeting new personalities, consequences, challenges, and experiences would be part of it.

The night before, I dozed off unwillingly and suddenly found myself in the midst of this royal brouhaha, where I am staring at this handsome prince in front of me on his knees, my arms extended, and as a sign of respect introduced himself and kissed my hand. I gave him a lovely smile as I flutter my eye lashes---

KRIIIIING! KRIIIING! KRIIIIIIIING! KRIIING KRIING! It was the alarm clock.

My eyes popped wide open as I jumped off my bed, still half sleep, I was looking around hopefully to find my prince! but alas! I knew that I am back to the real world.
I got a glimpse of the clock. It was 5:30 am. I exhaled sharply as I rushed down to the bathroom, after gathering my toiletries. It's occupied! And I did not wait. I went downstairs to eat, then I brushed my teeth afterwards. After a while, I came back to the bathroom. The next thing I knew, is that we were already entering school.

A flag ceremony has started as I go down the car. I KNEW IT! I'M LATE!!! I waited for an eternity for the flag ceremony to endOh, how I wish it ended that instant! so that I could go straight to the classroom afterwards. I started walking towards the Maliksi building right after the students were dismissed. As I walk closer to my designated classroom, I can't help but notice the refreshing and natural ambiance. I saw green grasses scattered along the field that made the school seem lively in the bright of day, the trees that stood tall as they swayed around the gentle breeze that struck them, the butterfly garden that thrived with alluring flowers and colorful butterflies, and lastly our classroom that was built beside a beautiful orchard garden.

I entered the classroom without hesitation. I saw new faces that somehow reminded me that I am now entering a new milieu. While I was scanning the whole room for an empty chair to sit on, the nearest person to my right kindly offered me the place beside her. I nodded with a smile then swiftly made my way to seat on that chair. I am now seated beside a big window near the door that is garnished by a blue laced curtain that hovers above my shoulders which allows the warm breeze of air enter our room. As I was sitting comfortably on my chair while admiring the new environment but suddenly, I wondered .....

How does it feel like to be a junior? What are all the responsibilities and challenges would I face? Am I ready enough

It made me think. But then, I reminded myself that God gave me gave me this strength and will to keep on fighting. I also reminded myself that I am a person that NEVER gives up and would always DO MY BEST on challenges, responsibilities, problems ,and whatever life throws onto me.

Just when I was having my 'moment', my thoughts were cut-short as a woman walked into the classroom. She introduced herself as our classroom adviser and Science teacher. Our adviser discussed about some information about junior high and our class schedule for the rest of the week. She also stated that a diagnostic test is coming up and that we needed to prepare. Anyway, the class was dismissed and the subject mathematics was coming next. I was rather expecting a serious and competitive time but I was actually surprised that we would have to play the "Joker Juliet" that consists of an adjective that describes your personality and your nickname. I had a hard time memorizing all of our names. It was like squeezing my brain to memorize all of those in an instant! But basically, I had fun during those times.

Anyway, my code name was the 'Adorable' Agnes which many people found it cute and yet, confusing. Comparing the junior year to my last two years in high school, this activity that we did was kind of refreshing. I know that everyone was hungry for more but unlucky for some, they haven't finished the game due to shortage of time. Nevertheless, we all know that Time speeds up whenever we're having fun.

After all the commotion and when everybody has calmed down, It was time to take our recess. I reconnected with my friends from my sophomore year. We exchanged insights about what we think about becoming a junior student, recalled memories of us together, and we strolled around the campus. It felt good reminiscing old memories with genuine pals and gals who stood beside you after all these times right? I mean, who wouldn't? We took analytic geometry and advance statistics before lunch, ESP and Music afterwards, and then lastly, we took the English and the Filipino subjects before the class was dismissed.

Eventually, everyone looked drained and tired. But through time, I know that we'll get used to this set-up. At the end of the day, there were many requirements to be submitted and assignments to accomplish e.g. graphing the Cartesian plane, group projects, putting margins on notebooks (which took like forever), and things/materials to bring. Actually, these things are really not that difficult. It just needs patience and time to complete. And so what, if school brought challenges? Bring it on!

Moving on, astonishing diagnostic tests were taken for two days, and I must say that most of us were startled (especially on the Spanish subject). But anyway, we would have time to learn about those topics written in the test for us to get a better result. The joining of clubs happened right after our second day of taking the test and I must say that it was so lively! There were so many clubs to join in! After those brainstorming that I had in my head, I chose to become a part of the Research club and ICT club. Students formed into groups to have the election of officers in their respective clubs so, I went with the flow.

Everything went fast and the weekend came. At the end of this week, I was able to quickly adjust and enjoy everyone's company. I made new friends but of course, I would never forget my old ones. To sum it all, the first week of class is everything that I expected (plus more). I could say that I truly enjoyed my first week and hoping that everything will take off from then on.

This is my first week in junior high. And I know, more surprises awaits.

"I am Becoming a junior student
everything is full of excitement, yet full of bewilderment
thou could fill your heart with content
but get ready for the Problems you will Amend "
~ Agnes Gwyneth R. Gutierrez 06/07/14

And I hope, at the end of this week, I would (AHEM) see my prince once again (in my dreams)!

SEE YOU SOON!
